This was interesting! Marc Aspland, sports photographer extraordinaire at The Times journeyed to Liverpool to photograph javelin champion Goldie Sayers mentoring heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson. Each thrower had just three throws for Marc’s benefit and the athletes had to be threaded together to show their different styles. I have done this sort of composite before and it is always much easier when shot against a black background inside but that was never really an option with a professional athlete throwing a lethal weapon about 5o metres.
